4 reference tables
This page provides consolidated reference tables for historical flag sizes from Germany, the United States, and the United Kingdom, covering multiple military periods and service branches. Included are Imperial German Navy flag-size regulations, Nazi-era naval and state size systems, U.S. G-Spec and MIL-F-2692 ensign dimensions, and British 1:2 ensign standards.
Reference note: These tables are not exhaustive. Flag-size systems varied between eras, services and flag types. FlagGeek prioritizes contemporary regulations, official specifications and period reference works where available. See also Manufacturers & Labels.
Imperial German Navy Flag Sizes
The Imperial German Navy used an official system of different flag sizes according to flag type and the category and size of the vessel on which the flag was intended to be flown.
An official 1892 Reichs-Marine-Amt regulation lists the dimensions of naval ensigns, jacks (Gösch), pennants, command flags and signal flags. It distinguishes between sizes for Schiffe (ships), Fahrzeuge (naval craft), and a separate flag outfit for Torpedofahrzeuge (torpedo craft).
Detailed reference: See the full article with the complete 1892 table, contemporary explanation of the size system, vessel examples, and the special 0.70 × 1.00 m torpedo-craft Gösch: Imperial German Naval Flag Sizes – Understanding the Official Size System .
